Normalizing Online Lessons
For the last few years, the norm was online lesson delivery. These options kept us safe, and allowed us to keep working together during a time when we otherwise might not have been able to. It also allowed us to engage with people all over the world, and not only people in your neighborhood!
Since September of 2022, JRD Voice Studio has implemented a hybrid lesson approach, meaning if you are in the Delta, BC area (or willing to drive!), and want singing lessons, you can have them at the home studio! (Subject to schedule availability and acceptance of the studio COVID-19 Waiver and Liability Release Form.)
Online singing lessons are not better or worse than in-person lessons, they are just different. I believe in teaching online. I am so grateful that we have had a way to remain connected during the course of the pandemic AND that we have a way to STAY connected into the future!

So How Does This All WORK?
The Studio continues to use the latest in cutting edge online technology to deliver world class lessons with the lowest possible lag time and interactive tools for all students to enjoy!
Upon successful registration, you can make your preference known for which method of lesson delivery you want - in-person, online or a combination of both.
We have maintained a robust online studio presence, and will continue to do so - for a variety of reasons! It doesn’t matter if you are in Toronto, Hong Kong, the Fraser Valley or Vancouver Island, you will be able to connect for your voice lessons or group class online without leaving the comfort of your own home - no more commute!
We also use this platform so all studio members can participate in studio functions like group classes, studio showcases and masterclass/workshops from wherever they are!
Additionally, for ALL current studio members, online access is always available in case of illness, inclement weather or travel - even if you are an in-person student, you can hop online anytime!
Online lessons will remain a cornerstone of JRD Voice Studio’s offers, so no matter where you are, you can work with us!

Enhancing Your Online Lesson Experience:
A laptop to run the online lesson delivery platform (like Zoom).
A secondary device like your phone or tablet/external speaker to play tracks from (I love this little Sony Bluetooth speaker).
A quiet place where you’re not distracted/feel like you can sing out, Louise!
All your tracks queued up from the studio Google drive, YouTube, or wherever you keep them.
All your sheet music, workbooks, etc. gathered together and ready to go.
Pencil, water, pets to show me!

Final Thoughts:
None of the peripheral purchases are deal-breakers for online lessons.
However, if you are a pro-level/college singer in The Diva Package, and using primarily Zoom, I highly recommend the purchase of a USB mic - it helps with the clipping in the extremity of your range SO MUCH. Otherwise, your laptop/tablet/phone mic is perfectly adequate.
If you have been taking lessons of any kind online, most of these items you are used to having prepared - but if you’re new to the online game, just know this will help save time during your lesson, so we can, well, SING!
